A juxtaposition of light and dark

I love the way light enhances everything it touches. The way a crystal is transformed into a prism of all colours.

Or how the early morning sun rises, its rays making shadows of the trees in front, and dividing between the branches and leaves, so shafts of light stream through.

Perhaps it is a morning of hoarfrost and those first rays of light make the grass shimmer.

I like to imagine that, close up, the light striking a red bougainvillea leaf makes it pulsate to the rhythm of my own beating heart.

But at night, with a full moon, and the sky blanketed with a million tiny diamonds, one appreciates being hidden, in shadows, out of sight.

Our universe is eternally dark – for without darkness, there can be no light.
